Muniellos is one of the few virgin areas in Spain and a reference in terms of protection of nature.
It is a privileged space where the oak is the king, constituting the largest robledal of Spain and one of the largest in Europe. In addition to Oaks in its forest you will find ash, hazel, maple and on the banks of the rivers Alders and willows.
Its rich and varied fauna include the Cantabrian brown bear and the grouse, protected species. It is also common the presence of wolves, roe deer, jabalies, chamois and otters.
Muniellos is declared a special protection area for birds, with more than 100 species flying in the area.
The special protection of Muniellos makes it possible to only allow the entrance of 20 people per day, so it is necessary to make pre-reservation.
It has an interpretation centre of the reserve.
